When Greetje Hakvoort and her partner Arien bought the large equestrian accommodation in Kootwijkerbroek in The Netherlands it had been empty for several years. They started renovating the buildings and the 6 hotel rooms. Part of the renovation plan was to reduce the enormous gas bills that took up a large part of the budget. By placing a bio mass heater, fueled by wood chips, they achieved a considerable gas reduction leading to an (almost) CO2 neutral location. To further enhance the sustainability performance of the Human&Horse Academy a solar plant is planned in the near future.
